spring gathering

By |2016-10-25T16:52:21+00:00May 17th, 2013|2nd Monday|2 Comments

Last Monday, our 2nd Monday gathering was at my home. Spring is here in all of her unpredictable beauty; which explains why I was whipping the sheets off some of my outdoor flowers as people made their way up the driveway.  My little beauties survived 2 nights of frost and now I am hoping that [...]

new work..sort of

By |2016-10-25T16:52:21+00:00May 5th, 2013|Handwoven|1 Comment

This honeycomb scarf has been off the loom for awhile now.  I don't often weave with wool and I thoroughly enjoyed this, especially how substantial and alive the finished fabric feels. Partly because the wool crepe that outlines the honeycombs gives the scarf just a bit of collapse and texture.  I wove this knowing that [...]

sari silk scarf

I wanted to try this multi warp scarf for the recycled art show that we featured at VIVA Gallery recently.  One of the warp threads is a recycled silk sari, handspun yarn from Nepal, beautiful and unpredictable, and probably not my wisest choice for a warp thread.  In all its lovely loosely spun hairiness it [...]

Susan’s Fiber Shop..spring fling

By |2016-10-25T16:52:30+00:00April 14th, 2010|Uncategorized|1 Comment

From Kindred ThreadsFrom Kindred ThreadsFrom Kindred ThreadsNot too sure about this project at first. I mostly just wanted to play with the weave structure. Something about doubleweave fascinates me. But the whole felting process has not usually been some of my brighter fiber moments. Of course if I had done some sampling I would of [...]

Supplementary warp scarf

By |2016-10-25T16:52:36+00:00May 1st, 2008|Handwoven|2 Comments

This lovely scarf has a rich ethnic look and I hope to do lots more in this style. The supplementary warp definately slowed down the weaving, but is worth the extra effort. A supplementary warp means that when I wound the warp I had the ribbons hanging off the back of the loom, so they [...]
